This Talking Houses video celebrates the experience of life inside Three House by John Ellway, which won the New House under 200 square metres award and the Australian House of the Year award at the 2021 Houses Awards.
Located in the Brisbane suburb of Paddington, Three House responds to the neighbourhood context with a series of three elevated pavilions. Despite its compact footprint, the elegantly proportioned house uses verandahs and sliding openings to borrow light and space from the neighbourhood. The house has also been designed with long-term adaptability in mind: one of the pavilions contains separate guest accommodation, while the entire house can be split into three compact residences in future.
The Talking Houses video series reflects the vibrant milieu of Australian residential design and reveals the unique character of each practice. Winners of categories in the 2021 Houses Awards were invited to share the stories, ideas and experience of living in each of their award-winning homes.
